![]() If you're looking for an excuse to learn something new, it would be better to invest that time in learning a new platform/tool that compliments your knowledge of JavaScript. If you already have a skill set that will work well to solve the problem at hand, and you don't need it for any other projects, don't spend the time jumping into a new language. ![]() ![]() My advice would be " don't reinvent the wheel". Most platform services have JavaScript/Node SDKs or NPM packages, many serverless platforms support Node in case you need to write any backend logic, and JavaScript is incredibly popular - meaning it will be easy to hire for, should you ever need to. Hi Otensia! I'd definitely recommend using the skills you've already got and building with JavaScript is a smart way to go these days. In this article, we’ll explore some of the drawbacks we found with Postgres and explain the decision to build Schemaless and other backend services on top of MySQL: Specifically, in many of the cases where we previously used Postgres, we now use Schemaless, a novel database sharding layer built on top of MySQL ( ). Since that time, the architecture of Uber has changed significantly, to a model of microservices and new data platforms. The early architecture of Uber consisted of a monolithic backend application written in Python that used Postgres for data persistence. Fun fact - earlier in Uber's history we'd actually moved from MySQL to Postgres before switching back for good, & though we published the article in Summer 2016 we haven't looked back since: In essence, it was due to a variety of limitations of Postgres at the time. Our most popular (& controversial!) article to date on the Uber Engineering blog in 3+ yrs. We use its excellent built-in full-text search, which has helped us avoid needing to bring in a tool like Elasticsearch, and we've really enjoyed features like its partial indexes, which saved us a lot of work adding unnecessary extra tables to get good performance for things like our "unread messages" and "starred messages" indexes. As a result, we were able to delete a bunch of custom queries escaping the ORM that we'd written to make the MySQL query planner happy (because postgres just did the right thing automatically).Īnd then after that, we've just gotten a ton of value out of postgres. We didn't have to do any real customization (just some tuning settings for how big a server we had), and all of our most important queries were faster out of the box. We ended up getting so frustrated that we tried out PostgresQL, and the results were fantastic. Issues ranged from bad collation defaults, to bad query plans which required a lot of manual query tweaks. However, we found that even though we were using the Django ORM for most of our database access, we spent a lot of time fighting with MySQL. Zulip started out as a MySQL project back in 2012, because we'd heard it was a good choice for a startup with a wide community. ![]() Here you can define the root directory (to put WordPress files there), your site domain name, as well as other settings. We've been using PostgreSQL since the very early days of Zulip, but we actually didn't use it from the beginning. The pinyon/juniper trees gave just enough privacy between campsites and it turned out to be my favorite campsite of a longish road trip. I'm so glad we did! Our campsite was pleasant, with a lovely red rock outcrop by a little drainage, and a clean vault toilet across the way. We assumed "high season" was over and had not made a reservation at the park the state park was full and the ranger at the entrance station encouraged us to check out Horsethief Campground. We were in the Moab area on a weekday a few days after Labor Day to go mountain biking at Dead Horse Point State Park. No showers and you need to bring your own water but if you just need a few nights it is totally worth it! And only $15 a night! … There is nice hiking and some bike trails at the campground. Although a bit of a drive to Arches NP and Moab (but still manageable) it was very convenient to explore Canyonlands NP and Dead Horse Point State Park. The pit toilets were clean and conveniently placed. The upper loop is closer to the road but it isn't a busy road so I can't imagine it would be noisy. We were in site #11 in the lower loop (Appaloosa Loop?) away from the road and it was very quiet. There were a mixture of tents, trailers and large RV units in the campground. We have a 17' travel trailer and it fit beautifully. Each site has a space for a tent, picnic table, fire ring and space to park your car. The sites are large with lots of space between each of them. but quite a few people leave early in the morning and since you can't make reservations, arrive early to get a site. I suspect that especially between March-Sept., the campground fills up most nights. We arrived about 10am on a week day and found quite a few sites to choose from. The study is distinctive because it applies standardized methods to directly compare how processes of cultural transmission may differ between two populations of wild chimpanzees. The good news is that it can normally be straightened out again. Since the strength of the material is more like bronze than a high strength stainless, it will “pretzel” pretty easily. The material used in low-strength stainless props is more similar to that used for deck hardware.
